Dieting can seem like the hardest thing if you don’t know what to look for in your nutritional facts. Obviously, most people know that you shouldn’t eat a lot of fat. But fat is necessary.

The key is getting in the right amount of carbs protein and fat each day that you are in a deficit. Most people would choose to try and just eat less or simply cut out one of the three macros. This is unnecessary and could make your body feel terrible.

Count you macros and try to hit the necessary amount each day. If you do this, you may be able to sneak in certain cravings, as long as it fits into your total macro count.

As long as you stay on top of the main nutritional facts, you will ensure yourself you are doing what is necessary to lose fat and be headed in the right direction with your physique. You may be surprised how much you are actually allowed to eat everyday once you find out which foods best fit into your meal plan. This will help you feel more full after meals and suppress hunger throughout the day.

My challenge to you is to start this journal today. Stop putting you dieting goals off. The first thing you should do is download the free app on your phone called My Fitness Pal. You can google the app or just play around with it in order to learn how to best use it.

The cool thing about this app is that it will allow you to set up your own macro goals. This meaning how many calories you want to eat per day and then what percentage of those calories should be proteins/carbs/fat.

Now that you have this set up, all you have to do is log in the foods that you eat throughout the day. You already have your head in your phone constantly, so this should not be that difficult to remember.

By logging your meals, you will begin to see which macros you are consuming too much of and which ones you lack. It will give you a better sense of how to change up your diet on a day to day basis so that you can begin to eat the right things.

Unsure about how much you should be consuming of eat macro? The default thing most people recommend to determine how many calories you should consume a day is to take your body weight and multiply it by 100. So for those of you who weigh 150 lbs., you should consume around 1,500 calories per day.

This is a lose number depending on how much exercise you get a day, but it is a good starting point. From there, you can play around with the percentages a bit in order to determine the split of your macros.

For those who wish to gain muscle and lose fat, try doing a 40/40/20 split of protein/carbs/fat. At the end of the day, it all depends on feel and how you see your body reacting. By focusing on this for as little as a month, you will being to see how your body reacts and can adjust accordingly.
